Last week I hosted my final fundraising event called ‘Gala for Good’ which was to raise money for my return to Brazil, enabling me to continue volunteering with Meninadanca teaching dance at The Pink House. It was a small and intimate event with only my closest friends and family attending so I thought I’d share with you a little about how the evening went..
The event was hosted at a bar and restaurant in Leeds Called Azucar. The venue is South American themed and regularly holds South American themed events making it the perfect venue to hold ‘Gala for Good.’ In addition to hosting the event, Azucar also supplied the evenings food with a very tasty 3 course tapas meal. They also donated a bottle of Moet to the raffle and the staff team were very helpful and accommodating.
We opened the evening with a selection of salsa dancing, taught by Bai Lamos Dance. We learnt basic salsa steps from the mambo to a cross body lead, with myself and guests partnering up and testing out our new moves with some salsa music. Everyone seemed to enjoy the dancing and I think even the people with 2 left feet learnt some new salsa skills!
Auction
The main event of the evening was the auction and raffle, I had some very generous donations that we auctioned off from local businesses and people. Here are some of the goods..
A good friend of mine Joshua Brown was the auctioneer for the evening.
The auction and raffle was a great success with £934 raised!
Thank You!
To everyone who made ‘Gala for Good’ possible; the people and businesses who donated prizes, Azucar for hosting the event, SA Media for doing the photography, Bai Lamos Dance for the salsa dance classes, Mizotion Creative for graphic and web design services and Joshua Brown for the auctioning. Thank You for your contribution I would have been unable to host ‘Gala for Good’ without you.
Most importantly I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the effort to come out on a cold winter Sunday evening to attend, I cannot thank you enough for your time and generosity.
I couldn’t do the work I do without the support of people around me and this event shows that, it’s only through other people’s support and contribution that I am able to volunteer with Meninadanca in Brazil, I honestly couldn’t do it without you! If you want to donate it’s not too late, you can make a contribution to my work now by clicking here! I will keep you posted as to when I will be heading back out to Brazil, hopefully it will be before Christmas if my visa is granted in time.
If you would like to know more about my work at The Pink House feel free to browse through my previous posts from earlier in the year when I was in Brazil.
